Tatiana & Ish

Saturday MAy 18, 2024

Tatiana & Ish - Araguacu Dance Co. - traditional bachata

Tatiana was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. Coming from Costa Rican and El Salvadorian parents, she was immersed in Latin music and culture from birth. Observing Tatiana’s natural inclination to music and movement, her parents put her in dance at the early age of 4 years old. Throughout her dance journey she stayed connected to her Latin roots by connecting her training to the music and movements she was raised with, salsa, bachata, merengue, reggaeton. Wanting to connect more deeply to her culture through music and movement, Tatiana joined Araguacu in February of 2022 and has invested herself fully in training, learning and growing alongside its community. Tatiana’s passion is evident through her infectious energy whether it’s talking about the dance or on the dance floor. Tatiana leads with an open-mind and heart and is committed to being a life-long learner of the history, technique and foundations of the dance, while always being rooted in the essence and flavour of salsa and bachata!

Ishfaaq (Ish) was born and raised in the tiny African Island of Mauritius before moving to Toronto in 2009. Struggling with his school-life balance, he decided to join latin dance clubs and fell in love with the salsa genre of music during his undergraduate years. After joining @araguacu in 2016 he trained intensively under the tutelage of Geovanny Ricardo to improve on his salsa technique and traveled across North America to further perfect his craft by learning from the best in the business. Having taught at some of the biggest latin dance events in the country, along with teaching weekly classes for Araguacu and other dance companies in the Ontario Region, Ish’s teaching philosophy focuses on having a safe and welcoming experience for his students with focus being on the fundamentals of not only dancing salsa and bachata but also connecting to the various rhythms of the two musical genres along with your dance partner.
